TOPEKA—The Kansas Supreme Court is accepting public comment on proposed Rule 124 that will allow courts to collect contact information from parties, witnesses, and potential jurors to help with case processing.

Contact information will include current mailing address, phone number, and email address. The contact information is not a public record under the Kansas Open Records Act, and it will not be disclosed to anyone outside the courts.

Courts will use the contact information as needed during the pendency of a case. It could be used to remind parties and witnesses to appear, or to alert jurors of last-minute instructions for reporting.

Supreme Court Rule 124 includes provisions for retaining and ultimately disposing of contact information courts collect in a case.

The Supreme Court will accept comment at SCRulespubliccomment@kscourts.org until 5 p.m. Friday, August 21. The subject line must read “Rule 124.”
